Today the Prime Minister launched the first of six themes at the heart of a Conservative manifesto: Dealing with the deficit so that Britain lives within its means, a key part of our long-term economic plan.
In his speech the Prime Minister announced:
"The choice is clear: competence or chaos. With the other parties, all you get is confusion, uncosted plans and the spectre of more debt.
"Instead, we commit to:
- run a surplus so that we start paying down our debts and keep our economy secure;
- reduce spending and cut out waste instead of increasing taxes on working people;
- control the welfare budget so we save money and reward work;
- crack down on tax avoidance and ensure those who can afford to pay the most do;
- continue to increase spending on the NHS so everyone gets the care they need.
"With the Conservatives, you get a strong and competent team, a proven record and a long-term economic plan that is turning our country around.
"The goal of that plan can be summed up in a sentence. Securing a better future for you, your family and Britain."
